Close Encounters...

The southwest offers the most spectacular scenery in the United States: cliffs and canyons, buttes and mesas, rocks of every imaginable color and texture. Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, but most especially Utah, must be included in any itinerary that means to cover the most remarkable of these landscapes.

The Grand Canyon is the most famous of the dramatic canyons, but is perhaps too overwhelming for the human mind to appreciate. There are so many other outstanding scenes - the red rocks of Monument Valley, the fiery sandstone pinnacles of Bryce Canyon, the endless expanses of Canyonlands National Park, the unbelievable heights of Zion’s escarpments, and so many more.

Each time I would set up my camera at a new site I would make countless exposures - only to discover, as I turned ever so slightly, totally new panoramas. I was amazed by the dimensions, formations, and vivid colors at every park I visited.
