Close Encounters...

Asia's hot and humid southeast is recognized as the home of most of the world's remaining tropical forests.

And it is in this environment that the rich variety of Asian wildlife thrives. Unfortunately, although numerous species of monkeys are quite readily found, most of the larger animals, such as those in this gallery, are rarely seen in their natural terrain, because many of them are severely endangered.

Such wildlife as tigers, leopards, one-horned rhinos, giant pandas, Indian elephants and others are on the brink of extinction as their body parts end up as trophies in specialty restaurants or in traditional Asian medicines. Only strict enforcement of conservation laws can save these animals.

My photographs are the result of many trips to the region and the invaluable assistance of excellent professional guides.
