Close Encounters...

I am not a “birder”, one of those naturalists always searching for another species to add to their list of birds observed. Nevertheless, I do enjoy photographing birds, especially when there is the opportunity to do this close up.

There are over a thousand species of birds that breed in, or regularly visit, the North American continent, so choosing the few shown in this gallery was not easy.

There are some birds that I take particular pleasure in finding, among them golden eagles, roseate spoonbills, and barn owls, so I’ve included those in my selection, as well as a number of others found in different parts of the country.

Since I am a "terrestrial photographer", accustomed to photographing birds on the ground, you will not find any images of them in flight.
